Spark to a Flame: The Very Best of Chris de Burgh is the third compilation album by Chris de Burgh, released by A&M Records in 1989. As a result, most of the tracks are drawn from his 1980s albums The Getaway, Man On The Line, Into The Light and Flying Colours.

Covering all of his crucial eighties material, Spark to a Flame: The Very Best of Chris de Burgh offers up most of this songwriter's best work, while also including a few of his better pieces from early in his career.

Several Chris de Burgh retrospectives have been released over the years, but this "Best of" compilation from 1989 is still the best collection of his work, offering tracks from a good selection of albums. It only covers the seventies and eighties, but those are really the only decades of de Burgh's work worth covering, when he wrote his most memorable songs. It also includes two new releases (at that time): "This Waiting Heart" and "Diamond in the Dark. Waiting Heart" is especially catchy. I found this track on Chris de Burgh's original CD "The Getaway" and on this compilation CD "Spark To A Flame". Seeing that the compilation also contained "The Lady In Red", which I also like, I chose to purchase the latter. This is a fantastic album and highly recommended. 16 page booklet contains all lyrics and a couple of photos of Chris.
