The Avalanche, a compilation album consisting of outtakes from Illinois, was released in 2006 and also reached various charts internationally. The Age of Adz (2010) was promoted by singles "I Walked" and "Too Much", with the latter song peaking at number 42 on Billboard's Rock Digital Song Sales component chart. The album itself debuted at number 7 on the Billboard 200, becoming Stevens' highest-peaking effort. As of March 2015, The Age of Adz has sold over 138,000 copies in the United States

Chicago (adult contemporary easy listening version) 1. The gathering that followed would become the setting for the songs on The Avalanche: Outtakes and Extras from the Illinois Album. Sufjan gleaned 21 useable tracks from the abandoned material, including three alternate versions of Chicago.

Sound - 10 Knowing that the 21 tracks on The Avalanche were some of the songs Sufjan Stevens cut from his brilliant Illinois album, one can only assume that the sound will be similar to that of its predecessor. The songs are, as expected, not as good as those on Illinois, but still hold their own and form a great CD, outtakes or not. The three new versions of Chicago, probably Sufjan's most popular song, are fun, but possibly knock down the value of The Avalanche as its own CD, and show its true colors as an Outtakes CD. Nonetheless, Sufjan manages to pack in more material on this record.

  • Perfect pressing !! No problems at all! Color wax looks and sounds good this time.

  • My orange LP had 2 tiny little dimple defects and was slightly warped. That being said this is a wonderful pressing! It is dead quiet and very dynamic. A huge improvement compared to a lot of Sufjan's AK vinyl releases.

  • Sorry to hear that yutfree. Give us an email at info at asthmatickitty dot com and we'll take care of you. We take vinyl quality very seriously. We previously were pressing a lot through another pressing plant and that compromised our quality. We're now pressing through IRP in Jersey and they're taking care of us so far. If you got a bad copy, it's an anomaly. Let us know.

  • This is great to hear! We've officially changed pressing plants to IRP on most if not all our pressings. This particular one was pressed at IRP and it does sound great to me as well.

  • That's a shame to hear. Mine was purchased via AK Web Store. Certainly the same pressing though. I feel very fortunate now, as I have always had to buy multiple copies of Sufjan's albums to find a silent one, but they are out there. I was hoping this would be a universally better pressing, but now it looks as though it's just like all the others have been.

  • My orange LP has a ton of surface noise, so I guess you got lucky (purchased through BullMoose). Yes, I've cleaned it thoroughly and done all the antistatic work I can. I play new vinyl all day long and this LP has the most surface noise of any new LP I've played in weeks. Sadly, not the first negative experience I've had with pressings from Asthmatic Kitty.

  • is this limited at all?? i literally didn't know AKR was pressing it until today!

  • johnred is this limited at all?? i literally didn't know AKR was pressing it until today! "The edition is limited to 10,000 units worldwide."

  • the hype sticker on the LP says ltd edition. Does not say how many copies though.
