The Piano Concerto No. 4 in D minor, Op. 70, by Anton Rubinstein is a Romantic concerto that was once highly esteemed and was in the repertoire of the Russian and Polish piano virtuosos Sergei Rachmaninoff and Ignacy Jan Paderewski. Anton Rubinstein, himself a renowned pianist, left five numbered piano concertos. He wrote three earlier piano concertos; two were lost and the third was transformed into Octet, Op. Rubinstein composed the Fourth Concerto in 1864

The Anton Rubinstein Piano Concerto 4 is a fabulous piano concerto. It was in the repertoire of Ignacy Jan Paderewski, Sergei Rachmaninov and Josef Hofmann, three of the Olympians of the piano in the first half of the 20th Century. It has been recorded by pianists of the stature of Grigory Ginsburg, Friedrich Wuhrer, Oscar Levant and Raymond Lewenthal. The first movement, Moderato assai, with its grand, dramatic exposition and lyrical themes, is splendid. The Andante movement begins with one of the loveliest melodies in the concerto literature

The Fourth Concerto, with its near ideal balance between the piano and orchestra, has proved the most popular of Rubinstein's concertos, and is the one on which the composer lavished the most care. First written in 1864, after two further published versions Rubinstein finally published a last revision in 1872. After progressing in fairly traditional sonata-form, Rubinstein adds a massive piano cadenza (which was undoubtedly an obvious pattern to parts of Tchaikovsky's later first movement cadenza to his concerto in B flat minor), then rounds off the movement by another massive statement of the main theme and a breathless coda.

Piano Concerto No. Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 in G major, Op. 58, was composed in 1805–1806. Beethoven was the soloist in the public premiere as part of the concert on 22 December 1808 at Vienna's Theater an der Wien. It is scored for solo piano and an orchestra consisting of a flute, two oboes, two clarinets, two bassoons, two horns, two trumpets, timpani, and strings.

Фредерик Шопен Концерт для фортепиано с оркестром №1 ми минор O. 1 - 2. Romance (Larghetto) (Maurizio Pollini - piano, The Philarmonia Orchestra, Paul Kletzky - conductor), 1960. Frederic Francois Chopin Концерт для фортепиано №2, Фа минор. Arthur Rubinstein, LSO, Sir John Barbirolli, 1928 Шопен, концерт для фортепиано с оркестром № 1 ми минор соч. 11 II. Romance: Larghetto.

Anton Rubinstein (1829 - 1894) was a Russian pianist, conductor and composer. He was part of the tradition of the 19th century virtuoso performer/composers such as Franz Liszt. Although his compositions are seldom heard now, at one time he was equally valued as a composer as a performer. He toured Europe as a virtuoso pianist and even toured the United States during the 1872-73 concert season. He gave over 200 concerts in 239 days.
