From across the Pennines, AB2088 aka Andy Brown presents his debut album of experimental techno 'Sagittarius' on Computer Club. Rhythms reverberate through the static with an occasional bubbling of electro-funk. This is electronic music that is bleakly distant and yet eerily familiar. Скачиваний: 86. Sheffield’s CPU sister label Computer Club continues on its run of idiosyncratic, charming IDM with the debut album from AB2088. Based across the Pennines from the Steel City, something of the classic Manchester sound is present in cuts like ‘Permafrost’ and ‘Bokglobules’, albeit appearing here in a pared-back form.

  • More known for delivering the uneasy listening side of electronic music, CPU Records offshoot imprint Computer Club slips into more comfortable sounds with its seventh outing by AB2088. The release available on cassette - which is receiving somewhat of a renaissance - and on digital is a journey through experimental techno that is not only submersive but thematic. Unlike most electronic long players that are unstructured and invariably a collection of 12 inch A and B sides, this very much works as a unified piece. With definite nods to the underwater sounds of Detroit legends Drexciya, Andy Brown’s debut album is of very high quality, production and ideas wise. You can almost conjure up the imaginary sci fi visuals as the mellow openers Lacu and Permafrost make way for the more Germanic sounds of Subsurface Ocean I. Hydrocarbon returns the conceptual release back to the deep sounds of space which at times feels like it could be a rescoring of the sic fi classic Dune. Subsurface Ocean II picks the pace up once again with bleeps and hypnotic loops akin to Hood, Banks and Mills seminal X102 release in the 1990s. In among the fierce, foreboding rhythms there are moments of pure electro funk as Bokglobules drifts in and out of focus before Cogen submerges us once again into a deep cinematic landscape. The entire album feels like it is part of an interstellar journey and one that has yet to be completed. With any luck Brown will take us on another trip into space some time very soon.
