A Recital By Billie Holiday. A Recital By Billie Holiday. This album contains recordings taken from her 1952 and 1954 sessions, and is an excellent sampler of her skills and charms. While the disc may appear to be just another throw-together of Holiday hits, with nothing in particular to distinguish it from the others, the arrangements, the performances and the recordings themselves are all wonderful. Backed by tight, laid-back session musicians (Oscar Peterson plays piano on many of the tracks – check out his solo on Lover, Come Back to Me )

Billie Holiday began singing in Harlem nightclubs at the age of 14. She went on to become one of t. .e greatest voices of her time because her talent and musical innovations were fostered by the New York City jazz scene of the 1930’s and 1940’s. More than 80 years after making her first recording, Billie’s evocative, soulful voice still echoes as a force for good. Although Billie Holiday faced adversity throughout her life, she is remembered for her musical masterpieces, her songwriting skills, creativity and courageous views on inequality and justice

Billie Holiday is one of the greatest jazz singers of the 20th century (competing at the same level as Frank Sinatra & Ella Fitzgerald). Her friend tenor saxophonist Lester Young gave her the nickname Lady Day and their recordings together are some of her best, possessing a joy and playfulness not found in the emotional intensity of her later recordings

The discography of Billie Holiday consists of twelve studio albums, three live albums, twenty-four compilations, and five box sets.
