That’s why the story of punk is best framed in the context of something like Tensión: Spanish Experimental Underground 1980-1985, a compilation collecting the often weird and ungainly salvos from Spanish youth who had been held back for generations by an oppressive regime and suddenly found an entire genre seemingly built for their righteous frustrations and fears.
Tensiòn - Spanish Experimental Underground 1980-1985. The Roots Of Chicha - Psychedelic Cumbias From Peru.

Spanish synthpop is a unique creation. Drawing on the cultural valence of its own position as a southern European nexus, the earliest Spanish synthpop had its genesis at the tail-end of the Franco dictatorship.
With his music competence, and radio activity on Radio Kras, he contributed in a really precious way to my knowledge of Spanish experimental scene. Great thanks go to Cesar Naves and Jaime Rodriguez too, for their great friendship and encouraging me to this project. I appreciated that a lot, cause that contributes to give us not globalized music, but a genuine and original form of expression, with a lot of surprising artists working isolated, as well as in well organized groups and associations. I also had the fortune to meet in Spain, Pedro Menchaca, one of the most sensible and nice people I knew since I’m working on these surveys project. With his music competence, and radio activity on Radio Kras, he contributed in a really precious way to my knowledge of Spanish experimental scene
This is a list of notable events in music that took place in the year 1985. 1985 in British music. 1985 in Norwegian music. 1985 in country music. 1985 in heavy metal music. 1985 in hip hop music. January 1 – The newest music video channel, VH-1, begins broadcasting on American cable. It is aimed at an older demographic than its sister station, MTV. The first video played is Marvin Gaye's rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner".
That’s why Tensión: Spanish Experimental Underground 1980-1985 is an important artifact: Because no matter how close oise-mulch/etc. get to becoming socially acceptable, these tunes always will be WEIRD AS FUCK because they belong to nothing and no one. Even in the era of Pink, Ariel, no one will ever listen to cuts like He, by Mar Otra Vez, and confuse it for the work of a current artist. If you are truly dedicated to the unflinchingly weird, however, this should come as no surprise, and underground-music enthusiasts of many a stripe will find Tensión: Spanish Experimental Underground 1980-1985 worthwhile, from the Bobby Trimble followers to the Les Georges Leningrad-ers to Jandek folk to those sequestered in a coldwave cave until the next summer psych solstice.
