Eric Clapton is the debut solo studio album by British rock musician Eric Clapton, released in August 1970 under Atco and Polydor Records. After being successful with bands including The Yardbirds, John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, Cream and Blind Faith, Clapton recorded an album under his own name in late 1969 and early 1970. The album cover shows Clapton sitting in a room which is going to be decorated and in which a ladder, a chair and some carpets are placed.

Cale recorded "Cocaine" on his fourth album, Troubadour, which was released in 1976, and issued the song as the B-side of his single "Hey Baby," which was his last charting song as an artist, making US. When Clapton was looking for songs for his Slowhand album, he once again looked to Cale, and chose "Cocaine," which became the first song on the se. During the Slowhand sessions, Clapton and his band got to see a . Cale concert, and Cale brought Clapton on stage to duet on this song.

Eric’s time with the band was turbulent and he left for a while to tour Greece with friends. Upon his return from Greece, Eric rejoined the Bluesbreakers. British guitarist and singer-songwriter Eric Clapton has released 24 studio albums, 26 singles, 18 compilations, 14 live albums and six soundtrack albums as a solo artist and scores of collaborations on records with other artists. Before his career as a solo artist, Clapton became famous as a guitarist in several bands, including The Yardbirds (1963–65), John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers (1965–66), Cream (1966–68), Blind Faith (1968–69) and Derek and the Dominos (1970–71).

Clapton was raised by his grandparents. Cocaine is a cover of a J J Cale song. The song is about drug addiction, which Clapton was struggling with himself at the time he first recorded it in 1976. He had managed to beat heroin addiction, but was still involved with cocaine and alcohol abuse. Clapton intended Cocaine to be an anti-drugs song. One of Clapton’s most upbeat and happy songs, Let It Rain, was recorded in 1970 for his first solo album.
