The Plague Within is the 14th studio album by the British gothic metal band Paradise Lost. The album was released on 1 June 2015 in Europe and 2 June 2015 in North America via Century Media Records. This album shows the band returning to their death-doom roots, mixed with elements of the gothic metal sound they are most known for. All lyrics written by Nick Holmes; all music composed by Greg Mackintosh.

Plague is an infectious disease caused by the bacterium Yersinia pestis. Symptoms include fever, weakness and headache. Usually this begins one to seven days after exposure. In the bubonic form there is also swelling of lymph nodes, while in the septicemic form tissues may turn black and die, and in the pneumonic form shortness of breath, cough and chest pain may occur.

If I may say so, this album has nothing to do with Demon as a whole, and even though I do enjoy the two first and a few of the albums to follow it, this is something "quite on the other side" and saw Demon moving into the more pop/rock oriented ladscape of progressive music. Being so, fans of the two first all shouted WTF, are you out of your minds.

The Plague Within has plenty of variety to offer as it basically blends the gothic elegance of Paradise Lost’s recent works with a more subtle doom/death metal flavor that despite not recalling the band’s early works (as the band claimed it would) is definitely something ne. Holmes’ death metal shrieks are a breath of fresh air, even if the growls are a far cry from the barbaric belly gutturals of the first two Paradise Lost albums. Greg Macintosh occasionally picks up the pacing as he manages to combine unusual tremolo picked riffs with his trademark style, resulting into an interesting contrast between tenderness and controlled aggression.
