The song was originally called "Come Softly", and the group was originally named Two Girls and a Guy, but both were changed en route to the song becoming a hit. Gary Troxel (b. November 28, 1939, Centralia, Washington) and Gretchen Christopher (b. February 29, 1940, Olympia, Washington) were two high school students waiting for Christopher's mother to pick them up after school.

He established himself by working scams on the ocean liners steaming between Paris and New York City. Lustig’s first con involved a money-printing machine. 7Ferdinand Demara: improvised successful surgeries as a fake surgeon. Known as the Great Impostor, Ferdinand Demara masqueraded as many people from monks to surgeons to prison wardens. Born in Massachusetts in 1921, he joined the . Army in 1941 and began his new live by borrowing the name of his army buddy Anthony Ignolia. He then faked his suicide and borrowed another name, Robert Linton French, and became a psychologist.

The film only loosely follows Demara's real-life exploits, and is much lighter in tone than the book on which it is based. Worried about possible disrepute to the RCN, and his stellar service, he is allowed to leave under a general discharge. He then goes and becomes a teacher in New England. The FBI eventually comes up with an agent whose assignment is to track down the great impostor and capture him. In the end, the agent is revealed to be Demara himself.
