Frank Wellington Wess (January 4, 1922 – October 30, 2013) was an American jazz saxophonist and flautist. In addition to his extensive solo work, Wess is remembered for his time in Count Basie's band from the early 1950s into the 1960s. Critic Scott Yannow described him as one of the premier proteges of Lester Young, and a leading jazz flautist of his era-using the latter instrument to bring new colors to Basie's music.

Frank Hallam Day’s work has been shown in numerous international exhibitions and is represented in many galleries and private collections. He has worked as a lecturer for photography at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington and is the winner of numerous prizes and scholarships. Winner 2011: Jan Grarup„Haiti Aftermath. One of the first major jazz flutists, Frank Wess was also a top Lester Young-influenced tenor man, an expert first altoist, and an occasional composer/arranger - certainly a valuable man to have around. Early on he toured with Blanche Calloway, served in the military, and had stints with the Bill. .
