Johann Christoph Friedrich Bach (21 June 1732 – 26 January 1795) was a harpsichordist and composer, the fifth son of Johann Sebastian Bach, sometimes referred to as the "Bückeburg Bach". Born in Leipzig in the Electorate of Saxony, he was taught music by his father, and also tutored by his distant cousin Johann Elias Bach. He studied at the St. Thomas School, and some believe he studied law at the university there, but there is no record of this.

Johann Christoph Friedrich Bach was very hurt to realize that he was no longer indispensable to the royal court, to which he had devoted his life’s work and which he had faithfully served for over four decades. Humiliated, he died on 26 January 1795 after having been struck by a heated chest fever, to quote his obituary. Johann Christian Bach, the youngest son of Johann Sebastian Bach, was born in 1735 in Leipzig. Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach. Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach was born in 1714 in Weimar. In the second half of the eighteenth century, J. Bach's second-eldest son was actually better known than his father.

In 1759 Johann Christoph Friedrich Bach was appointed concertmaster of the orchestra, though he had, in effect, already served in that capacity for three years. While his position was secure and his work with the highly-respected chamber ensemble more than satisfactory to the Court, his music seems not to have been highly regarded or performed often. Bach's work shows him to have been a transitory figure in the mold of his half-brother Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach. his brother Johann Christian Bach, the Grauns, and Georg Philipp Telemann, with some works in the style of the high Baroque, some in a galant idiom, and still others which combine elements of the two, along with traits of the nascent.
