The Symphony No. 9 in E minor, "From the New World", Op. 95, B. 178 (Czech: Symfonie č. 9 e moll „Z nového světa ), popularly known as the New World Symphony, was composed by Antonín Dvořák in 1893 while he was the director of the National Conservatory of Music of America from 1892 to 1895. It is by far his most popular symphony, and one of the most popular of all symphonies.

Orchestra: New York Philharmonic. Conductor: Leonard Bernstein. Composer: Antonin Dvorak. Audio CD (September 7, 1999). So imagine my surprise to hear at this late date one of the very best: this terrific Dvorak "New World" Symphony, and happily it's an SACD to boot, which ironically probably caused me to pass it by when it first came out, thinking it was time-wise miserly short and price-wise over-the-top, due to Sony's shameful asking price.

Despite Bernstein's hyperactive conducting and some scrappy playing in places from the New York Philharmonic, these are examples of the most lively music they produced together in the early '60s
