Phil Seymour (May 15, 1952 - August 17, 1993) was an American drummer, singer, guitarist and songwriter, best known for the singles "I'm On Fire" (with The Dwight Twilley Band), his own solo hit "Precious to Me" and for being the second voice on Tom Petty's hits "American Girl" and "Breakdown. His solo work is revered among fans of power pop. In 1967, Seymour met fellow Tulsa musician Dwight Twilley at a theater where they had both gone to see a screening of A Hard Day's Night.

Never one to back down from a music trivia challenge, I asked him what record he played on, and it was "Precious To Me" by Phil Seymour - a 45 I had bought as a kid! I'd never heard more than the one song, but he told me the album was actually pretty good. A couple months ago I found a still-sealed copy at a great price, and happily welcomed it into my collection.

Phil Seymour was half of the great 1970's power pop act The Dwight Twilley Band, who were friends with Tom Petty and contributed one of the 70's great singles - "I'm On Fire". This collection touches on some of his solo career, but foolishly ignores his 2nd album entirely (he only made 2 albums!!!) The first album is represented by 3 (perfect) songs, and the rest are rarities. It is still a good collection and great showcase for Seymour's energetic vocals. Best Tracks: "Baby It's You" - The song that made me adore Phil Seymour as a pop talent. Precious To Me" - Phil's only hit single - a self-penned classic with a singalong chorus. The First Mistake I Ever Made" - Cover of the Barry Gibb ballad that is totally worth hearing. Running" - Uptempo pop number (check out that sax!) done by Phil and the Textones.
