Party Time is a studio album by The Heptones and backing band called The Upsetters, released in 1977. Along with Junior Murvin's Police and Thieves and Max Romeo's War Ina Babylon, this album can be seen as part of a Black Ark Lee 'Scratch' Perry produced "holy trinity". Highlights include the title track, a Rasta-influenced cover of Bob Dylan's "I Shall Be Released", the menacing "Storm Cloud", and the determined "Road Of Life".

The Heptones - I Shall Be Released (1976). No time for church? Me neither. Well, here’s your religious experience for the day! I’m gonna go out on a limb and insist that this is the best version of I Shall Be Released. Better than the Band? Yep, though it should be noted I’m not a big fan of the Band. The Heptones signed a major-label deal with Island in 1975 and released their label debut, Night Food, the following year; it was produced by Lee "Scratch" Perry and featured mostly new versions of old Studio One material. The follow-up, 1977's Party Time, followed a similar blueprint, and also included an eye-opening cover of Bob Dylan's "I Shall Be Released

In 1977, The Heptones recorded Party Time with Lee "Scratch" Perry. In 1973, Perry built a studio in his back yard, the Black Ark, to have more control over his productions and continued to produce notable musicians such as Bob Marley & the Wailers, Junior Byles, Junior Murvin, the Heptones, the Congos and Max Romeo. In 1969, the Jamaican harmony group the Heptones covered "I Shall Be Released" as a reggae tune for Studio One and then later on in 1976 at Lee "Scratch" Perry's Black Ark studio and label for the album Party Time. Lee "Scratch" Perry (born Rainford Hugh Perry, on 20th March 1936, in Kendal, Jamaica) is one of the most influential people in the development of reggae and dub music in Jamaica. Perry began his career in the late 1950s working with Clement Coxsone Dodd's sound system. He eventually performed a variety of important tasks at Studio One as well as recording about thirty songs, but the pair eventually stopped working together due to personality and financial conflicts.
