Jonny L, real name John Lisners, is a British drum and bass producer. He has also released music under the alias of Mr. L and was one half of the UK garage duo True Steppers. He first came to prominence with the single "Hurt You So" in 1992, popular in the rave scene. The single would later be sampled and looped in the 1998 track "Oh Boy" by the Fabulous Baker Boys. He signed to XL Recordings, the same label as the Prodigy and SL2. He produced more singles such as "Ooh I Like It" and "Make Me Work".

From this album, the hit single, "Piper" proved to be a success even though it was extreme in its sound, although on the album there were other electro-influenced tracks. By 1998 the next album, Magnetic, carried on in a similar vein. He left XL to form his own record label, Piranha Records in 1999.

First album of Jonny L on XL recordings, the label of The Prodigy. Before I found this album, the only track I knew by Jonny L was the remix of The Prodigy - One Love. I have to say that te standard of this album is much higher than that track. This album is full of drum n' bass with a hard edge in most numbers. This album sounds like minimal techno in the world of drum 'n bass.

Jonny L took inspiration from the darker sounds of ’80s electro and house, Ray Keith, Doc Scott and Grooverider to make the album. Precision-tooled for the club, it had an atmosphere more psychological thriller than gory horror, XL says of one the album’s most famous tracks, ‘Piper’. Sawtooth originally arrived on five 10″ records, but the reissue is being pressed on a double 12″. It’s released on December 8 and there will be a party to celebrate the launch at London’s Pickle Factory this week with sets from Doc Scott, Grooverider, Optical, Bailey and Need For Mirrors.
