Live 1966: The "Royal Albert Hall" Concert is a two-disc live album by Bob Dylan, released in 1998. It was recorded at the Manchester Free Trade Hall during Dylan's world tour in 1966, hence the quotation marks around the false attribution to the Royal Albert Hall. Extensively bootlegged for decades, it is an important document in the development of popular music during the 1960s.

Now, for the first time, the REAL Royal Albert Hall concert, originally recorded for a live album by CBS Records, is finally being released as a standalone 2-CD set, titled The Real Royal Albert Hall 1966 Concert. This show is also included in the 1966 Live Recordings box set. Dylan is accompanied on these recordings by Robbie Robertson (guitar), Rick Danko (bass, backing vocals), Richard Manuel (piano), Garth Hudson (organ) and Mickey Jones (drums). It was in 1966 that Dylan started to conceptualize the future of the rock concert and this tour reflects it concretely. With the solo acoustic half, he goes about the expected deed, but he does it with terrific clarity. The version of "Visions of Johanna" found here is even more exciting than the one he did in Manchester.

Baby, Let Me Follow You Down (Live at Royal Albert Hall, London, UK - May 26, 1966).

was to release The Real Royal Albert Hall 1966 Concert, a show given on May 26, 1966. This double-disc set follows the same contours of the Manchester Free Trade Hall show, offering the acoustic set on the first disc and the electric on the second. Furthermore, the set lists are identical, so The Real Royal Albert Hall 1966 Concert feels a bit like a mirror image of the Manchester Free Trade Hall. Like on Manchester, the acoustic set is quite good, but it's overshadowed by an electric set that feels wild and alive

  • I was slightly disappointed that this issue didn't have the "judas incident" on it. Is this another recording of the concert "live in 1966"? Another night maybe? I'm referring to this release: https://www.discogs.com/Bob-Dylan-Live-1966-The-Royal-Albert-Hall-Concert/master/28288

  • the first "Iive in 1966" was NOT a bootleg. but that same show from Manchester was widely circulated on bootlegs as Royal Albert Hall.In 1998 Columbia put out the Manchester Free Trade Hall show officially as the Bootleg Series Vol. 4, but called it the "Royal Albert Hall" show so people would know that it was the infamous one with the "JUDAS!" incident. but it did say on the cover that it was from Manchester. This release here is one of the two nights that really are from the Royal Albert Hall which was the last stop on the tour. I just cannot figure out which night it actually is.

  • Hey there, that live with the infamous "judas" incident, was published for many years as live at Royal Albert Hall, was actually recorded in Manchester in the same year. It has officially published in 1998 in the Bootleg series (vol. 4) with the now consolidated title «The "Royal Albert Hall" Concert», adding the quotation marks to make clear that it is NOT the Royal Albert Hall concert.

  • The Judas incident took place in Manchester but bootlegers sold it as "The Royal Albert Hall concert". This one is "The Real Royal Albert Hall Concert", therefore, no Judas incident!

  • Thanks for the clarification! I didn't know the first "live in 1966" was a bootleg of a different night...
