Camper Van Beethoven is a 1986 album by musical group Camper Van Beethoven, released on Pitch-A-Tent. With the six then CVB members joined in the studio by acid-folk eccentric Eugene Chadbourne, the album is arguably the zenith of the band's musical experimentation, with surreal lyrics, backwards, sped-up and slowed down parts; the entire track "Stairway To Heavan" is itself a musical palindrome.

CVB's self-titled third album generally differs little from II & III, continuing the blend of wistfully weird lyrics, any number of musical touches from all over the map and good-time vibes. The opening "Good Guys & Bad Guys" proves that much, with reggae, folk, country and more stewed together as Lowery plaintively sings about lawyers and the people in Russia and the like. From there on in it's another collection of generally short and generally fun ditties, but with a few more tweaks here and there

Written-By – Camper Van Beethoven (tracks: A1 to A3, A5 to B6, B8). Notes. Recorded at Fox Studio, Felton Ca May & June 1986. Manufactured and Distributed by Rough Trade, 326 Sixth S. San Francisco. From a sticker on the shrinkwrap: The third album. Not produced by anyone famous. It doesn't sound very American, and it is not particularly sincere.

Camper Van Beethoven" is a 1986 (see 1986 in music) album by musical group Camper Van Beethoven, released on Pitch-A-Tent. With the six then CVB members joined in the studio by acid-folk eccentric Eugene Chadbourne, the album is arguably the zenith of the band's musical experimentation, with surreal lyrics, backwards, speeded-up and slowed down parts, and a great number of ethnic instruments used. In addition to the usual violin parts played by member Jonathan Segel, the album also features pedal steel, banjo, tablas and sitar.

  • The first pressing is also on root beer brown Quiex. For those unfamiliar, backlight your record and see if it shows up as translucent brown. It looks like normal black vinyl under normal light.

  • Not really Self-Titled. The title is “Soviet Spies Swim Upstream Disguised as Trout”"What we did do was give the album a title that no one could find. Unless you were looking very closely. The album does have a title. The title is “Soviet Spies Swim Upstream Disguised as Trout” It’s right there in the liner notes. And on etched in the inner groove of the first run of vinyl. We titled it this way because we had an obsessive fan that would write us nearly everyday. In one of the letters she (?) said she dreamed the next Camper Van Beethoven album was titled “Soviet Spies Swim Upstream Disguised as Trout”. et voila."http://300songs.com/2010/10/04/59-stairway-to-heavan-sic-in-praise-of-half-baked-ideas-and-unfinished-things-the-importance-of-not-being-earnest/
