Released October 13, 2017. MASSEDUCTION Tracklist. 1. Hang on Me Lyrics. Masseduction (mass-seduction, stylized as MASSEDUCTION) is the fifth studio album by Annie Clark under the name St. Vincent, released on October 13, 2017, through Loma Vista Recordings. The lead single, New York was released on the 30th of June, 2017. Additionally, the second single Los Ageless was released the same day. St. Vincent has said that the record is all about sex and drugs and sadness.

Vincent has finally admitted to who was behind - erm, in front of - the butt modeled on her Masseduction album cover.

She conducted interviews promoting the album in a giant pink box, a St. Vincent sensory overload chamber, complete with pre-prepared answers to questions.

Masseduction’ is the result, another gift from fame’s fickle filly, a clutch of tales about power, lust and spectacle. This time, though, the subject is St Vincent herself, from the softly spoken, synth-fogged desperation of opener ‘Hang On Me’ ( I cannot stop the aeroplane from crashing ) to an out-of-control paramour ODing in a bathtub on ‘Young Lover’, to ‘Pills’, a witty, madcap sketch of self-medication. I heard the tales: fortune and blame, she confides.

  • This record needs some EQ loving to sound good, it's quite limp without it. If you have a fat EQ I would recommend it better dynamics than digital.

  • No issues with my pressing.Regarding the cut/recording I think it sounds excellent. Its not as bright as the digital (as others have noted) but it has lots of resolution. Plenty of sonic depth and Annie’s voice is clearly positioned on the soundstage for a great listen. As usual, I understand more of the lyrics and am more mesmerized by the music in this format. What more do you want?

  • I agree wholeheartedly. Wonderful record, mine has no issues and sounds fantastic.

  • My record was very noisy at first most likely due to the stock paper sleeve that the record came in. Once I cleaned thoroughly with my Squeaky Clean RCM and put it into a Sleeve City Diskeeper, it was like night-and-day. Noticeably less pops and crackle. If you get a particular noisy copy from VMP, try a good cleaning and ditch the paper sleeve and replace it with a quality inner from MoFi or Sleeve City.

  • I can only guess that this was a bootleg version put up on Bandcamp by some nefarious individual. Since it's the only 96khz I've seen, I would guess that it was probably upsampled, most likely from a lossy format. What a stupid thing to do.

  • 'happy birthday, johnny' is a tear inducing piece of magic.devastatingly moving. But yes,the pressing could be way better. It saddens me that the rebirth of vinyl has resulted in great albums like this being forsaken.

  • Near-silent background and a beautifully detailed, clear pressing with lots of body and bass. It's strange how varied people's experiences seem to be!

  • Mine is somewhere in the middle of the two extremes of the reviews. The SQ is satisfactory after the record was cleaned on my Okki Nokki, although it still carries a few ticks and pops. To my ear the record is not as dynamic as it could be but is still very listenable. As for the album itself? It’s a modern classic!

  • How is this a "Misprint"? I tried comparing this to the other version but can't find the difference.

  • dancing with a ghost is printed as "slow disco interlude"

  • Disappointing sound quality on the vinyl. Muffled highs and weak lows. It was bad enough I thought there might be something wrong with my setup, but after checking to make sure the needle was clean and playing a few other records - nope, it was only this record. Digital version is great.

  • This is an absolutely dreadful master/pressing, with the high end rolled off. For a record that is aping '80s production, it should sparkle and shine, but it's muddy and sounds like it was mastered for an AM radio. One of the most disappointing releases of the year!!! Especially as the songs on the digital download are just amazing sounding. This should not be a modern problem, folks.

  • My copy plays very well. No surface noise, perfectly flat, spindle hole fits as it should. No issues whatsoever

  • Hiya anybody got a secret 7 inch which came with package to sell me ?

  • Sandbag shipped me a damaged sleeve (as usual) and the replacement was also damaged. Vinyl sounds decent, minimal pops/clicks on mine.

  • This plays perfectly. Label and spindle centered. Sound has astonishing depth and clarity. Fantastic release from St Vincent.

  • My copy sounds stunning. Very pleased to have this in my collection.

  • 2 copies to date and both noisy, clicky, poppy especially on side 2. Another record pressed by GZ which is wanting in the quality control department.

  • This pressing sounds superb with no noise or distortion to be heard, although the record is slightly warped, but not enough to really affect the sound quality. Packaging is very well done and it compliments the aesthetic of the record very nicely. Another good month from VMP.

  • Avoid! Very noisy pressing along with other noted issues. Stick with the Digital.

  • This pressing is outrageously noisy. Don't spend the extra money on this one, folks.

  • Just got my copy from VMP, side A sounds perfect

  • Yeah my copy played perfectly quiet. I think the pressing hit or miss for all versions unfortunately.

  • Wondering, was both sides of yours noisy? Side A of mine sounds fine but side B is nasty sounding even after a good cleaning.

  • Thanks, emailed them to see if we can swap it. Glad to hear you've got a nice copy - gives me hope! :)

  • Send it back to VMP. My pressing is nice and quiet..

  • To my ears, this pressing sounds better than the pink and yellow ones.

  • Unfortunate packaging, spindle hole, pvc cover etc bit of a shame Edit: about a month later the crinkles in PVC have mostly disappeared from upright storage between a bunch of other records.

  • I feel like everyone should have this in their collection with sleeve condition listed as poor just on principle. Can't fault the sound though.

  • The most anticipated album of the entire year came to me in a very disappointing packaging... There's no sleeve to hold the LP, It's just the cover / poster foldout of the album that keeps it in.... THE PVC cover is torn on the corners + the center (which bears the heaviest weight). The sticker sheet and the booklet are nice but they could've been executed better. The sound quality on this sturdy heavy LP (almost 180G) is pretty nice, no scratches, no hiss, no noise on quiet passages. I thought it will be catastrophic but she did it again which is pretty awesome.

  • would someone be able to post the matrix runout?thank you

  • Excellent sound quality, sounds so much more three-dimensional and vibrant than its digital counterpart. I usually don't believe that vinyl can sound that much better than digital audio, but this is a fantastic example that blows me away. The only issue with this yellow deluxe pressing is that mine has a very slight warp and pops and clicks a little too frequently to say its flawless. The warp does not affect the sound and it's so slight that I believe wouldn't bother most people. There are a lot of goodies packaged with this edition, lots of stickers and a booklet. The PVC sleeve is prone to wrinkles so I would recommend being careful with it if you don't want it to look like an eyesore in your collection.

  • Mine finally arrived (and it's the yellow version, yay), and while it came with freebies like pins and an XL black tshirt, the record itself is slightly warped and skips :( I'm going to contact Sandbag.

  • Does anyone know how many copies are from the yellow version? Haven't seen it stated anywhere.

  • The yellow edition is still available from the St. Vincent webstore +12 months later.

  • I can't find a confirmed source, but confirmed, 1500 copies

  • I got mine in the post on the 23rd. The PVC sleeve is wrinkled as others have posted. The whole packaging is a bit on the annoying side and could use some rigidity. My vinyl is relatively flat, just a slight warp. Labels are clean as is the spindle hole. Playback is mostly quiet with a bit of minor surface noise for the last minute or so of each side. Overall it sounds quite good. Musically, I love it.

  • My copy has a very slight warp, center hole is snug but fits okay. It should be noted that a download card is included.

  • Also received an incredibly creased PVC cover. No warping on record thankfully, spindle hole had a lot of flash still attached which I pared off with a sharp blade to improve the finish a little. Without the strength of some cardboard the whole package sags under its own weight. I might need to add a plain sheet of card inside just to beef it up a bit. Brilliant album musically but packaging is a let down. A sliding clear outer like Disclosure's Caracal may have achieved the same effect with better results.

  • I've had two copies and both were very warped, along with the centre hole being too small.

  • Wait, so there *is* a yellow version? That was what I ordered from her website the day it was announced. I still haven't received it, but I thought they switched from yellow to pink for all deluxe versions.

  • there is (or was) yellow and pink. the yellow appears to be no longer available. I pre-ordered it the first day it was available, received on the 19th.

  • yes yellow version. I got mine on the 18th. Friend got his on the 21st.

  • Mine plays fine but I had to very gently, and with some terror, drill the center hole to get it to fit on my turntable.

  • mine is a tight fit as well. glad i just had to push softly and not drill it.

  • I agree w/killakatholic 100%....disc is warped and the spindle hole finish is poor. I'm not crazy about having no cardboard sleeve either. This could have been done better for $40. I do appreciate the music, and the fact that they fit it all on 1 disc.

  • I still haven't spun mine so I can't say whether it's warped or not, but I can say that the bullshit PVC housing sleeve it comes in was completely wrinkled as fuck. Why would they send the album inside this without an actual sturdy sleeve? Unless you're looking to spend extra for stickers, a poster, and a lyric booklet, I'd stick with just buying the non-deluxe pink variant. The album(music) itself is not her best. 3/5 at best.

  • I definitely won't flip it. Not sure if anyone would want to buy it after my comment.

  • Also annoyed me that mine was sent without cardboard reinforcement... ironically nearly $10 shipping fee. no outer sleeve, no rigid shipping reinforcement plus pvc sleeve equals some damaged lps i say! Although nearly repulsed on first listen, I must say the songs are growing on me, which has always been the case for me whenever listening to Annie in the past decade... (minus LTG, cant get with it) but i think alot of naysayers will flip later on... let Annie make some $$ and solidify her position within all domographics, that way she will have future opportunities for more expirementation.

  • Gripes about this release! Sound is good, but LP was slopilly packed, record has noticeable warp, both labels are cracked/ripped at spindle hole, plastic shavings still stuck to spindle hole. Dissapointing for a "deluxe album". Oh well it is bout the music right? Which is excellent.

  • Wow. Thanks so much for the info! That would be awesome to get a clean copy. Ill post the results.

  • Hey, just FYI...if you send Sandbag customer support some pics of the labels and a short video of the warped record spinning, they may send you a new copy. I did, and they offered to ship me a new one....didn't ask for the damaged copy back. Good luck!

  • while mine didn't have any issues, the lack of any sturdy structures does have me worried of future damage

  • Where did you obtain a 96khz version of this release? Also- St. Vincent does not appear to be on Bandcamp.

  • It was at https://stvincent.bandcamp.com/album/Masseduction-Explicit , but apparently it is gone now.You can still find the page via Google Cache, but probably not a good idea to try to shop from that :-)

  • Does anyone know how many of the deluxe yellow vinyl were pressed, and can quote with a source?

  • the yellow deluxe pressing sold out in like 2 seconds glad i caught a copy

  • i think there were a few copies left in her record label store but also sold out yesterday

  • For those wondering, it's not a "clean" version; the s and f words are intact. The green "censored" tag is a sticker on the cellophane. For some reason, Target apparently decided that Annie's (fully covered) butt was too risque for their shoppers. However, the poster is a lie. The insert is a doubled-sided six-panel, one whole side of which is a picture of Annie lying on a carpet.

  • another visual trick, like the terms "los ageless"and "masseduction"... i say lets combine all elements and refer to this album as "ASSEDUCATION"

  • I was disappointed in the "poster" (I agree . . . it isn't a poster) and I'm very curious what the insert is like on the standard CD. Does anybody know? Is it the same thing except for lyrics on one side instead of the picture of Annie on the carpet? Or is it like a 24 page booklet with lyrics and photographs and all sorts of other cool things?

  • To my surprise that is not actually her butt, but Carlotta Kohl's

  • Sound Quality: (n.b. I always clean new records using vinyl revival before playing) After first listen the vinyl pressing seems good but not amazing. No visible dust or scratches on the vinyl on arival. There are clicks and pops on the quiet parts, but not enough for me to return it, or to listen to the wav files in preference. Based on past experience I would expect the surface noise to be virtually elliminated by the 4th play or so and another clean. I did a head to head comparison with the WAV file for New York and found the vinyl to be more dynamic and have a better stereo soundscape.Packaging: There is no cardboard! The 'sleeve' is actualy a folded poster. This is inside a PVC sleeve with the album title on one side and the track listing on the other. Incidentaly the track 'dancing with ghosts' is listed as 'SLOW DISCO INTERLUDE' on mine. You also get some stickers and an A4 booklet with photos and lyrics. The record did not come in any kind of inner sleeve! it was just in there.... between the poster and the lyric booklet (that did have a plastic sleeve- the worlds gone mad!) I put my record in a poly lined sleeve straight way...I mean i wouldn't have been able to sleep otherwise.... The download card was for 16bitWAV files.Music: After 1 listen i can't really comment, but i already like it better than the previous album, which seemed bit cold and detached compared with the album before (strange mercy). I think I will be listening to this a lot, while not being quite the 'break up album' the music press led me to expect, (its more complex and rounded than that) it is definitely more emotional than its predecessor... While sounding nothing like it, It reminds me of Lou Reeds transformer. there are already several songs leaping out, most notably Happy Birthday Johhny and New York which must be one of her best songs to date. Its one of those records where you want to listen to it again immediately after its finished.

  • UPDATE: I find the pressing horrible. Bassy and muddy. Yes it has some dynamics but it's not clear at all and you lose most of the details. Plus, the surface noise on the quieter parts is unforgivable for an artist of this caliber. Very disappointing.

  • Totally agree. Just received it and the PVC cover is already torn near the corners. This is not going to last. Also the vinyl not being in a sleeve is a big issue for me. I would probably return it if were not for the excellent music that it contains.

  • Packaging of this album is absolutely terrible !!! The plastic "cover" is already splitting along the seams - and as stated - no inner sleeve for the vinyl. If they were going for different it was certainly achieved. Longevity of this in a collection will require special handling.

  • Warped, noisy, distorted and off centre... another terrible pressing from the hacks at Memphis Record Pressing. Sending it back to Amazon for a refund. Buyer beware!

  • Same as jglembo here: centered and proper pressing, no warp or warble that isn't present in the music.

  • kid-o Hopefully you'll send complaints to the pressing plant directly, because Amazon will most likely don't care. Did you listen further than Track #1? That one seems to sound muffled on purpose. However, this album is not clicking with me so i'll probably pass on the physical. That is exactly what I am doing, because you are right, Amazon doesn't care. They would just keep sending me replacement copies if I requested them, and I don't see how that makes them money in any way at all. I listened to all of Side A - which was noisy but tolerable - but had to give up half way through Side B due to the terrible non-fill distortion.

  • Slight edge warp on mine that my vinyl flat took care of.No surface noise (did not even wet clean it) and centered nicely.Overall, a pretty quality pressing on my end

  • Any other info on the matrix for this edition? Country of manufacturer means GZVinyl, so would like to know if it has actually been cut by a cutting engineer with initials?

  • I have deluxe pink vinyl with PVC sleeve UK version, Matrix in full:side a: MRP0919/LVR00224/NEW-A (stamped) 164565E1/A LVR00224-AREI RJ STERLING (etched, except 'sterling' which is stamped)side b: MRP0919/LVR00224-B 162211E2/A2 (stamped) LVR 00224-B RJ STERLING (etched, except 'sterling' which is stamped)

  • I have added the matrix/runout as they appear on my copy (Pink). Only has the initials RJ (Ray Janos) and the STERLING stamp.
