Rocka Rolla is the debut studio album by British heavy metal band Judas Priest, released on 6 September 1974 by Gull Records. It was produced by Rodger Bain, who had made a name for himself as the producer of Black Sabbath's first three albums. It is the only album to feature drummer John Hinch. According to the band, the album was entirely played live, in studio (.

Judas Priest's first album, Rocka Rolla, is a kind of "forgotten" album.

Judas Priest 1974 Rocka Rolla - 10 Caviar And Meths 02:04

A sketchy and underfocused debut, Rocka Rolla nonetheless begins to delineate the musical territory Judas Priest would explore over the remainder of the decade: frighteningly dark in its effect, tight in its grooves, and capable of expanding to epic song lengths. On the other hand, Rocka Rolla is also murkier, less precise and powerful in its riff attack, and more blues-based; the stylistic debts to Black Sabbath and Deep Purple are obvious at this juncture, although they would become much less apparent on subsequent releases.

Lyrics to "Rocka Rolla" song by Judas Priest: Man eatin' momma, steam driven hammer Sorts the men out from the boys Takes no messin', all in wrest. Rocka rolla woman for a rocka rolla man You can take her if you want her If you think you can Rocka rolla woman for a rocka rolla man You can take her if you want her you can. She's a grip and choke ya Heavy smoker Wrong side of the law. Midnight shady Good time lady Heavy, ready show you what for. Barroom fighter Ten pint a nighter Definite ninety-nine.

  • This record is awesome might you listen to a little bit of it here:http://allmetalmixtapes.com/judas-priest-1974-rocka-rolla/

  • Doesn't first pressing say Thanks for the words Al! and subsequent sleeves have this blurred out and then finally removed completely?

  • There are first pressing releases with that removed but Rocka Rolla 4 min. version

  • I recently got this very first issue in a solid VG+ shape for both, media and sleeve (with the orginal Decca inner sleeve also!). I am very happy of finally have the original 4 minutes version of the Rocka Rolla song that was replaced by the edited 3 minutes version in subsequent reissues of the album.

  • Rocka Rolla 4.00 mins is in this version1st pressing: Non-gatefold sleeve, Robert Stace credit (bottom right corner).(Not PYE)Label notes:1st pressing with Decca style matrices and credits on labels: “The Decca Record Co. Ltd”.Matrix 1st press (stamped):XZAL-13291.P-3WXZAL-13292.P-1W

  • i checked 3 different early LP versions, including this, and all are with Rocka Rolla at 3 minutes so i "think" that the 4.00 mins was just a misprint on the tracklength

  • IMO a very under rated Priest album. Never Satisfied is my personal favorite.

  • Although largely considered a weak Priest album, due to the embryonic state of their style, it remains a favorite of mine. The only true misfire here is the Winter trilogy. The title song is sing-along catchy, "Dying to Meet You" is moody as hell, and "Never Satisfied" is a strong song that, although bluesier than later Priest, would fit quite well on post-Sin After Sin Priest albums, especially with Halford's trademark scream at the end.
