Of Love and Peace is an album by organist Larry Young. It was recorded in 1966 and was released by Blue Note Records. The album was recorded at Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, on July 28, 1966. Of Love and Peace" and "Falaq" are largely free improvisations. The other tracks are cover versions of "Pavanne" and "Seven Steps to Heaven". Of Love and Peace was released by Blue Note Records.

Producer – Alfred Lion. Recorded By – Rudy Van Gelder. Of Love And Peace ‎(LP, Album, Mono).

The title Of Love and Peace may stand in direct contrast to the music within; there may be plenty of love, but on this cacophonous album of barely-controlled chaos, there's precious little peace. Augmenting the front line of trumpeter Eddie Gale, alto James Spaulding and tenor saxophonist Herbert Morgan, Young opts for a two-drummer approach, with Wilson Moorman III and Jerry Thomas behind their respective kits. Personnel: Eddie Gale (trumpet), James Spaulding (alto sax, flute), Herbert Morgan (tenor sax), Larry Young (organ), Wilson Moorman III (drums), Jerry Thomas (drums). Digital Download - Blue Note. By 1966, Larry Young was playing music that fell between advanced hard bop/soul-jazz and the avant-garde. For this stimulating Blue Note date, the organist meets up with trumpeter Eddie Gale (who was playing with Cecil Taylor during this era), altoist/flutist James Spaulding, and three obscure but fine sidemen: tenor saxophonist Herbert Morgan and both Wilson Moorman III and Jerry Thomas on drums. Two of the selections ("Of Love and Peace" and "Falaq") are essentially free improvisations that have a momentum and purpose of their own, moving forward coherently.

Of Love and Peace (1966). Album by Larry Young. Seven Steps to Heaven. is a cover of. Seven Steps to Heaven by Miles Davis (1963).

This is followed by Of Love and Peace, an improvisation that is abstract and somewhat quiet and relaxed compared to the opener. This tune almost sounds like a cross between 20th century concert hall music and some of Sun Ra's more unique approaches to group improvisation. Miles' Seven Steps to Heaven opens side two and the band give it a fast chaotic and joyful reading that is somewhat reminiscent of Ornette Coleman. The album closes with Falaq, another freely improvised number that starts with a jazz pulse, but becomes more abstract as it goes. Larry turns in some trademark bizarre.
