Sumud (صمود), which was released on 22 May 2012, is the third album by Niyaz. It was originally reported that like their previous album Nine Heavens it would be released as a double album with one disc each for acoustic versions and electronic versions of songs, though it was released as a normal record with ten songs. The album features the guest appearance of . Rahman on the song Mazaar, a traditional Afghan folk song.

Sumud Freedom Camp was launched May 19th, 2017 as a coalition, led by a local Palestinian family, in the village Sarura in the South Hebron Hills ring Zone 918, establishing the camp was a declaration of nonviolent direct action by Palestinians, Israelis, Jews and international justice seekers aimed at challenging the status quo and highlighting the injustices of life under Israeli occupation in Area C of the West Bank.

The album's lyrics are mostly in Persian (Parishaan, Shah Sanam, Mazaar, Rah-e-Vafa, Masooz and Mahtaab) with two songs in Turkish (Dertli and Arzusun) and features the band's first lyrics in Arabic (Rayat Al Sumud) and Kurdish (Sosin). It is their first album to feature no Urdu songs.

Niyaz the band returns with their third album, Sumud. The album's title is Arabic for 'steadfastness' and the record's musical themes center around the plight of ethnic and religious minorities around the world. Azam Ali chose this philosophical term as a symbolic reminder that, as she explains, 'every human being should inherit the right to live with dignity and freedom upon the land on which they are born.
